Many people think I’m crazy to be a nudist and live in the northeast. It’s not always the pairing up of the two, I suppose- there are those who think I’m crazy to live in the northeast and there are those who think I’m crazy to be a nudist- but the two often don’t “go together” in the minds of many. Then there are those who just plain think I’m crazy. You know, the ones who know me best.
So what does one do if they like to live nude and they live in the northeast? Actually, we do pretty well. For me, I live in a great home that’s always nice and warm, so living here nude is just fine. Obviously, the weather outside isn’t always cooperative. Today the temps are supposed to reach 60 or so, but that’s unusual for mid-November in NY. I get hot easily, so, actually, taking a nude walk when it’s 60 outside feels rather nice to me. Maybe that goes back to the whole “I’m crazy” thing, but it’s true. I am thankful to live on nearly 75 acres to enjoy clothed or nude, even if camp is closed- or clothed- for the winter.
While camp is not open, our non-landed clubs come to life in the winter. I’ve been to several swims in my area that allow me to be nude with friends and enjoy the pool. The swims in my area take place two or three times per month, which is a great schedule. They include a masseuse, food, and friends. My first nude event was a nude swim back on November 1, 2003, so these kind of events are what I’m used to. Back when I lived in Pennsylvania, there was a landed club (that’s a club with a facility as opposed to a non-landed club, which meets in various places such as people’s homes or a rented swim location) that is open year-round. While I surely wish the owners of the camp where I currently live would follow this great example, having a year-round landed club open year-round is odd up here because of the cold. In addition to these types of nude events, there is always the option of inviting nudist friends over for some company. I recently found out that I’m hosting a nude party in the next month or so myself, which should be fun!
Going outside nude during the winter months can be a challenge but makes for great stories. Once the snow flies, I know several people who go outside to make nude snow angels. I confess that I’ve tried this feat and learned that the only way to do it correctly is to have a hot tub running nearby to jump in to once the snow angel is complete. My second cousin, Buz, took a short snow-shoe walk on a bitter-cold day. It makes for a great story and helps us appreciate the warmth of summer, though some would say it also classifies us for involuntary psychiatric commitment. So be it- we only live once.
Sure, living in a warmer climate makes the most sense for a nudist. This is obvious. But for those of us with family and friends who live in cold places like the northeast, we do have options for nude living that don’t include abandoning those who are dear to us. Worse comes to worse, there’s always the SNUGGIE! lol
