Did you know that the most failed class in Middle School (according to two social workers that I’ve recently spoken to who work in Middle Schools) is physical education? It is. And do you know WHY it is that so many kids are failing physical education? Go ahead- guess!

If you guessed the reason to be that kids refuse to change their clothes for gym, you’re absolutely right. I find this to be very sad. I’ve heard many from the older generations talk about nude swimming during gym class. Those slightly younger than that generation remember showering after gym class. As a 36 year old, I didn’t have experience with either one of these, but I did have to change into gym clothes (not a uniform, just different clothes) for gym class so that I didn’t stink all day.

Nowadays, even changing for gym class is a big debate. With all of the bullying that we hear about in schools and the rise of cell phones with cameras and camcorders in them, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised about the debates.

We all want kids to be safe- safe from cyberbullying, safe from bullying at all, safe from being hurt. But I tend to think that teaching these kids that their body is no better or worse from anybody else’s is also a kind of safety- safety from themselves and a poor body image.

Body acceptance seems to be on the decline today, which is certainly evidenced in the increased failing grades in gym class. We can talk about therapy and medications and all that to combat the problem, but I recommend a far simpler, less expensive, and easy solution: nudism! Within nudism, children see that all bodies are beautiful and acceptable. They see that bodies aren’t all that different, including their own. Younger children see bodies that are older than theirs, which helps them to know what to expect as they reach puberty.

I wish that I had learned about and experienced nudism at a far younger age. How much happier would my life have been? There is not enough money in the world to buy back my first 28 years, the years of misery before nudism. If there were a way to get those years back, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I’ve been asked by many whether I’d expose my child to nudism if I had a child. My answer is simple: there is not a thing in this world that you could do to get me to raise my child outside nudism. Living at a nudist campground and being around so many people of every body type who are loving and accepting people is absolutely the most beneficial thing I could do for my child.

In the meantime, my dog sure loves it here! lol
